“Rap God”: Eminem Beats First-Week Sales Expectations

Leaks and initial bad reactions didn’t stop Eminem from landing at the top of the charts. According to Hits Daily Double, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 sold approximately 779,577 copies its first week, giving the 41-year-old rapper his seventh consecutive #1 album.

Despite MMLP2‘s astronomical first week sales, 779,577 wasn’t enough to snatch the “largest sales week of 2013” crown from old foe Justin Timberlake. As you may recall, Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience sold a f*ckton of records its debut week. However, as far as hippity hop hop goes, Eminem is a rap god amongst men. Drake’s Nothing Was The Same previously held the title as having rap’s highest first week sales of 2013, selling 658,000 copies. But, that title now belongs to the Detroit rapper.

And because we can never get enough of those PR titles and distinctions, Eminem is now second to only Jay Z when it comes to having number #1 rap albums. William H boasts 13 to Em’s six. So that’s something to add in when you’re in a middle of a heated rap debate.
