Everything you need to know about college hoops this past weekend…
* David Arseneault, the point guard for Division III Grinnell College, shattered the single game assists record for all of college basketball when he dropped 34 dimes in Grinnell’s 151-112 win over North Central University of Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.
* Georgetown only needed 15 minutes from Roy Hibbert to blow past Jacksonville 87-55 yesterday. DaJuan Summers quickly emerged as the Hoyas’ “X Factor.” He scored 14 points in 22 minutes and continues to shoot the rock well from deep (2-4 3FG). “One day in the locker room, Coach Thompson said we have the chance to be scary good,” said Summers. “Each time we go out on the court we have potential to do something good. We have been able to slow down games, pound it inside to Roy or be quick in transition. Teams will always have a difficult time preparing against us.”
DeMatha alum Austin Freeman had his best game to date with 15 points (6-7 FG, 2-2 3FG) for the Hoyas.
* Washington State shot 65% from the field against Portland State as part of their 72-60. 6-10 C Aron Baynes led the Cougars with 23 points (9-9 FG). “The guys got me open, I just had to finish it,” said Baynes. “I haven’t been finishing the last couple weeks, and I finally got to tonight.”
* Scottie Reynolds lit Temple up last night for 27 points (8-12 FG, 4-7 3FG) as Villanova went off for a season-high 101 in their 101-93 win at the Liacouras Center. Dionte Christmas and Mark Tyndale combined for 44 points in the highest scoring affair in the ten-year history of the building.
