Nate Robinson Docked $25K For A Trade Demand He Didn’t Even Make

Four months after Stephen Jackson was fined $25,000 by the NBA for requesting a trade publicly, Nate Robinson was given the same penalty today. Only in Robinson’s case, he didn’t even say it. His Seattle-based agent, Aaron Goodwin, had told reporters that he asked the Knicks to move Robinson – who hasn’t played in 12 consecutive games.

“I want to do what I can to get Nate out of New York,” Goodwin told the New York Times. “There’s no reason to allow this kid’s career to get rotted by what’s going on here in New York.”

League rules forbid players from making public trade demands. Robinson, who has been surprisingly positive through his whole benching, has repeatedly told reporters that he wants to stay in New York and has been one of the team’s biggest cheerleaders.

Jackson’s trade demand was different because he kind of blindsided the whole Warriors organization when he stated his desire to get out of Golden State. Plus, Jackson did it in a league-sponsored public event. Speculation that Robinson’s agent wants Nate out of New York is hardly news, since that has been known for weeks now.

Is it unfair for Robinson to be fined for something his agent said?
