Report: Nets And Thunder In “Serious Talks” On Reggie Jackson And Brook Lopez Deal

We found out ysterday Reggie Jackson asked his agent to tell the Thunder he wants to be traded — perferably before the deadline so another team gets his Bird rights. It seems the Thunder’s earlier discussions with Brooklyn for big man Brook Lopez have been reinvigorated when Reggie was brought into the fold.

The talks earlier in trade season fizzled because OKC wasn’t offering Brooklyn anything they “liked.”

There’s only one problem now: Brooklyn needs a guarantee Jackson will re-sign with Brooklyn when he’s ready

Per Wojnarowski’s more fleshed out report for Yahoo Sports, it’s clear there’s still a lot up in the air, but if Reggie agrees to re-sign as a restricted free agent this summer, it could happen before today’s 3 p.m. deadline.

The Brooklyn Nets and Oklahoma City are in serious talks on a deal for Brook Lopez – with a key component centering on the Nets’ ability to persuade Thunder guard Reggie Jackson to make a long-term commitment to the franchise, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Nets and Thunder are discussing a deal that would include center Kendrick Perkins, forward Perry Jones and Jackson joining the Nets, but Brooklyn is working to gauge the enthusiasm of Jackson about coming to Brooklyn, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

There are several more moving parts in Nets-Thunder trade talks, league sources said.

Wojnarowski adds that the Nets will be moving guard Jarret Jack, and Deron Williams will continue to serve in a backup role as Reggie inherits the mantle of franchise centerpiece and starter — something that he’s publicly said he wants, which is impossible in Oklahoma City.

The Timberwolves and Sixers have also gotten involve, and may include the Kevin Garnett to Minnesota trade in the deal, turning this deadline deal into a whooper.
