The Miami Heat’s hours-long dreams of legitimate contention in wake of acquiring Goran Dragic have ended, but that’s irrelevant considering the far bigger issue at hand. In a statement released today, the team announced that Chris Bosh will miss the remainder of the 2014-2015 season with blood clots on his lung and called the 31 year-old’s long-term prognosis “good.”

The Miami HEAT announced today that Chris Bosh will miss the remainder of the 2014-15 Season, while being treated for blood clots on his lung.

Bosh, who is receiving care under the guidance of Miami HEAT team physicians at a Baptist Health System Hospital, is currently resting comfortably. Chris is OK and his prognosis is good.

Major concern on Bosh’s health developed earlier this week when he complained of discomfort in his side at a Heat practice. After the All-Star was hospitalized on Thursday, fears were confirmed yesterday when multiple outlets reported that Bosh was diagnosed with blood clots in his lung.

Though it’s been assumed in the interim that the lefty big man would be sidelined for the rest of the season, Miami stayed mum until his final diagnosis was made.

Considering the recent death of Portland Trail Blazers legend Jerome Kersey via similar illness, it was easy for NBA fans to assume the worst when news of Bosh’s status first emerged. Thank goodness he and the Heat organization took the prudent approach of seeking close to immediate medical attention upon his symptoms worsening.

As for the Heat, their expectations for the rest of the season have been immediately readjusted to pre- trade deadline status. While Miami won’t force its way into the Eastern Conference upper-class without Bosh, it could still prove a thorn in the side of the Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors, Cleveland Cavaliers, or Washington Wizards come late April.

A quartet of Dragic, Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng, and Hassan Whiteside is the envy of many teams in basketball; the problem for Erik Spoelstra is that his team sorely lacks the solid depth to compensate for the sudden absence of a two-way force like Bosh.

But basketball is firmly in the periphery for now. Our thoughts are with Bosh and his family during this difficult time and the road ahead.

Get well, CB!
