The Los Angeles Clippers righted their season while Blake Griffin was sidelined. Now that the five-time All-Star is set to return following surgery for a staph infection, maybe Doc Rivers’ team will live up to preseason expectations of legitimate championship contention.

Griffin will make re-appearance in the Clippers lineup on Sunday versus the Houston Rockets or Tuesday versus the Charlotte Hornets, ESPN’s Arash Markazi reports.

Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin is expected to return to the team on Sunday or Tuesday, multiple sources told ESPN.com.

Griffin went through a full workout in Los Angeles without any limitations Friday during the Clippers’ 129-99 loss to the Mavericks in Dallas. The plan is for him to return Sunday against theHouston Rockets, but there is a chance the Clippers will want to see him go through a practice and a shootaround with the team first, pushing his return to Tuesday against the Hornets.

Rivers wouldn’t commit to a return date for his superstar power forward on Friday, instead saying that Griffin was “very close” to playing.

Los Angeles has gone 9-6 since he was abruptly sidelined on February 8. Chris Paul has emerged as a legitimate MVP candidate in the process, while DeAndre Jordan has picked up Griffin’s slack in the frontcourt by averaging nearly 15 points and 19 rebounds per game.

The 42-24 Clippers are currently fifth in the Western Conference, one place better than where they stood when Griffin left the lineup early last month.
