Karl-Anthony Towns is on the shortest of lists for potential candidates to be picked first overall in the upcoming NBA Draft, the order of which will be decided in the lottery being held Tuesday night. The New York Knicks are the second most likely team to pick first overall, and they’ve hinted at picking Towns if given the chance. If they do, they would be fulfilling a lifelong dream for Karl, who spoke to Yahoo’s Marc Spears.

“I’ve always been a Knicks fan,” Towns, 19, told Yahoo Sports in a phone interview. “I never was able to afford passes to the games. We were able to afford cable and got the MSG channel so I could watch every Knick game. It made me more of a fan because I could watch every big game.”

Towns grew up in New Jersey, and he also mentioned a childhood rivalry with a Nets fan friend of his, which probably got pretty interesting when Jason Kidd was taking them to the NBA Finals and Patrick Ewing was playing out the string. Towns called Ewing his favorite Knick, and if the ping pong balls bounce right, the Knicks would make him their first top overall pick since Ewing in 1985.

Or, you know, he could go to Minnesota and look like Zach LaVine.

He says he’d be fine playing anywhere, which is what he’s supposed to say. But he wants to be a Knick, the Knicks want him to be a Knick, and Knicks fans want him to be a Knick. Do we really have to leave this to chance? (Yes, yes we do.)
