Russell Westbrook’s Brother Got A Special Treat At His College Graduation Ceremony

It’s been nearly a month since we were so cruelly deprived of watching Russell Westbrook and all his balls-out fury single-handedly try and drag the Thunder through the Western Conference playoff gauntlet, so long, in fact, that those magnificent triple doubles are starting to feel like a phantasm conjured up by our collective basketball subconscious.

It’s difficult to imagine how he keeps himself occupied during the offseason when there aren’t defenses waiting to be obliterated by him, but we got confirmation today of something we’ve suspected all along, i.e. that Russ is probably a really nice guy off the court, as evidenced by the fact that he was on-hand at his brother’s college graduation this weekend to personally present him with his diploma.

Westbrook’s younger brother Ray graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma Saturday, and according to his Instagram posts, he was beaming with pride that his big brother was there to be a part of the commencement ceremony, especially since their parents were unable to attend due to weather-related flight delays.

Despite suffering their first post-season dearth in six years, OKC has a lot to be optimistic about going forward, but there is also a great deal of uncertainty. Former coach Scott Brooks has been replaced by Florida’s Billy Donovan, and both Westbrook and Kevin Durant should be healthy for the start of the 2015-2016 campaign, but that dark and ominous cloud of Durant’s pending free agency will be looming large over Oklahoma City for the next 14 months.
