Watch Isiah Thomas Caress And Coo The Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy

The Larry O’Brien Trophy is elusive.

As LeBron James embarks on an incredible sixth NBA Finals appearance, you’ll hear time and again that he’s come out on their losing end three times – and likely will a fourth. Just getting the chance to play for a championship is an accomplishment in its own right, though. Just ask Chris Paul how hard it is to even approach the brink of the postseason, let alone step past it.

Hall-of-Famer Isiah Thomas managed that awesome feat on consecutive occasions in 1989 and 1990 with the “Bad Boy” Detroit Pistons. And 25 years later, Zeke is still in awe of the prize he failed to win in 11 of his 13 seasons. Can you blame him?

We’ll see a similar, if less outlandish, reaction to the Larry O’Brien Trophy from James or Steph Curry (and yes, maybe James Harden) soon enough. And once 2015-2016 tips off, they’ll go right back to chasing that rare moment just like the rest of the league.
