Charlotte has won the bidding to host the 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend, according to the Charlotte Observer‘s Rick Bonnell. Home of the Michael Jordan-owned Hornets, Charlotte hasn’t hosted an All-Star Game since 1991, when they were home to a different version of the Hornets, which is now the New Orleans Pelicans. Try and keep up.

Of course, the All-Star Game isn’t the only thing that happens on All-Star Weekend. Beyond the Dunk Contest and the other pseudo-basketball contests of All-Star Saturday, All-Star Weekend brings legions of fans and media who fill hotels and restaurants in a much more cost-effective manner than, say, an Olympics or a Super Bowl. If you’re a basketball fan on Twitter, be prepared for lots of tweets praising or criticizing the quality of Charlotte’s nightlife. Of course, that’s nearly two years away, so you have lots of time to prepare.

This coming season’s All-Star Game will take place in Toronto, in case you forgot.
