The Minnesota Timberwolves Have Put Anthony Bennett On The Trade Block

Last year, the Minnesota Timberwolves got quite the impressive haul for Kevin Love, snagging number one pick Andrew Wiggins, former number one pick Anthony Bennett from the Cleveland Cavaliers and Thaddeus Young from the Philadelphia 76ers. There was hope that Bennett, just a year removed from one of the most disappointing rookie campaigns in recent memory, one marred by injuries and conditioning issues, could resuscitate his still-young career in Minnesota. That hope has apparently since faded, as ESPN’s Marc Stein reports that Bennett is on the trading block in the days leading up to the draft.

Though Bennett’s career isn’t over by a long shot, he’s by far Minnesota’s most tradable asset when it comes to the members of their young core. It could very well happen that the Timberwolves don’t find a taker for Bennett (in fact, this wouldn’t be surprising in the least bit) and continue to try and develop him as long as he’s on his rookie deal. If he sheds his issues, that’s terrific. He’s a talented player, and if molded correctly, could actually fit quite well into the Timberwolves’ scheme. If he doesn’t, then it’s a sunk cost, but when you consider that the Timberwolves also got a player who looks to be at least a franchise cornerstone in Wiggins, it’s not that big of an expense for the team.
