The Average Re-Sold Ticket For Game 1 Of The NBA Finals Cost Well Over $1,000

Want to watch basketball’s two biggest stars face-off with the ultimate prize on the line? Of course you do. Unless you’re comfortable playing a small fortune for a single ticket to Thursday’s contest, though, you’ll be watching at home with millions of others across the country.

According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, the average re-sale value of a ticket to Game 1 between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers went for more than $1,000, an easy NBA Finals record.

…Thursday night’s opener between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, has become the most expensive Game 1 on the resale market in NBA Finals history.

Ticketmaster, the official resale site for the team, said the average price paid for a ticket is $1,023, while StubHub said the average price paid on its site is $1,535.

That’s almost $1,000 more than what fans have paid for Game 1s over the past four Finals.

Four-time MVP LeBron James? Reigning MVP Stephen Curry? Playing for a championship? In one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country? A region that hasn’t seen the NBA Finals in 40 years?

Yeah. It’s not exactly surprising that entry to Thursday’s game would cost many, many people a bi-monthly paycheck. But would the experience be worth it anyway?

We’ll get the chance the find out when the Warriors and Cavaliers finally get things going at 9 p.m. EST.
