The Boston Celtics Bolstered Their Frontcourt When Amir Johnson Agreed To Sign A Two-Year Deal

The Boston Celtics may have missed on Kevin Love, but they’ve still been able to make some improvements to their frontcourt by signing former Toronto Raptor Amir Johnson. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the deal is for two years.

Johnson provides some scoring and defense, but his addition will not drastically change the fortunes of Boston next season. During his time in Toronto, he experimented with extending his shooting range out to the three-point line, but he never became a truly credible threat (he shot 41 percent from beyond the arc this season, but that was on .6 attempts per game), and could disappear for long stretches on the offensive side of the ball. Still, he’s got the body of a traditional power forward who has added a set that means you have to keep an eye on him in the corner.

In addition to signing Johnson, the Celtics also re-signed Jonas Jerebko on a two-year deal, according to Sam Amick of USA Today.

Jerebko came on strong for the Celtics last year after a mid-season trade sent him there from the Detroit Pistons. He averaged 7.1 points and nearly five rebounds per game after the trade. The Celtics are loading up on wings, and at the very least, Jerebko should be able to provide shooting and some defensive versatility.
