The Cavaliers Reportedly Have A ‘Slight Lead’ In The Bidding For David West

Kevin Love has agreed to a five-year contract. Tristan Thompson is on the verge of a pricey multi-year deal of his own. And it’s highly unlikely LeBron James will ever play anywhere other than Northeast Ohio. Three highly impactful power forwards, though, apparently aren’t enough for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to Candace Buckner of the Indy Star, Cleveland has “huge interest” in signing free agent big man David West.

ESPN’s Marc Stein also reports that the Cavaliers are pursuing the 34-year-old, who’s being chased by the San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards, too.

West sacrificed a $12.2 million payday from the Indiana Pacers in 2015-2016 to become a free agent. In an interview earlier this week, the 12-year-veteran stressed that winning a title is his utmost goal. Though the Wizards can offer him a far more lucrative deal than either the Cavaliers or Spurs, the latters’ status as surefire title contenders should loom largest in the ongoing sweepstakes for West – as long as he’s true to his word, of course.

After coming to terms with LaMarcus Aldridge, San Antonio reportedly intensified its recruitment of West. However, Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Cleveland, despite an absolutely loaded frontcourt, has gained a slight lead in the ongoing sweepstakes for the bruiser’s services.

We’ll keep you updated on West’s status as news become available.
