After DeMarre Carroll was lost to the Raptors this morning, and Tiago Splitter was brought over from the Spurs, it seemed last season’s top team in the Eastern Conference would be getting serious makeover this summer. But all-star Paul Millsap will return to the Atlanta Hawks, per reports from the Salt Lake Tribune’s Tony Jones:

Millsap will sign a three-year deal for $58 million with a player option before that third year.

It seems talk they had matched Orlando’s four-year, $80 million max offer wasn’t what the 30-year-old was actually looking for. Millsap will now have more flexibility to either opt in that third year, or try his hand in the open market again in the summer of 2017 when the salary cap spikes in conjunction with the Basketball-Related-Income from the television rights deal.
