Leaving the mountains of Denver for smoldering Houston in the dead heat of summer would bother most people, but not Ty Lawson. The former Tar Heel was sent to the Rockets for a modest package of assets and picks over the week. Lawson became a pariah in Denver after acquiring his second DUI in six months. He’ll join a loaded, playoff-tested Houston squad, and seems pretty excited about it.

Ty Lawson is “excited” about being traded by the Denver Nuggets to the Houston Rockets, his agent told KRIV-TV in Houston.”He’s close with James [Harden], tight with Corey [Brewer], knows Trevor [Ariza] and Dwight [Howard] and is real excited,” the point guard’s agent, Happy Walters, told KRIV-TV.

Lawson’s talent and on-court fit shouldn’t be an issue in Houston. However, Lawson has real issues with alcohol that could potentially derail his career. He’s currently in a 30-day rehab facility due to his second DUI. Not to mention, the NBA could potentially suspend Lawson for his reckless behavior. Hopefully Lawson can get the help he needs and continue his successful career because, if so, the Rockets could find themselves having another long playoff run.
