Watch Wilt Chamberlain Hit Four Straight Hook Shots From 3-Point Range

Wilt Chamberlain’s career came to an end before the NBA’s implementation of the three-point line in 1979. If this video is an indication, that’s a good thing for the rest of the league, because the Big Dipper would have been unguardable from downtown.

The story behind it is a bit murky, but Wilt the Stilt calmly hits three hook shots from what appears to be behind where the three-point line would have been if it was around at the time. One of his teammates bet him $5 that he couldn’t do it a fourth time, so Chamberlain unloads one more hook shot and gets nothing but net.

Chamberlain scored 31,419 points in his NBA career, the fifth-highest mark in league history. There’s no way of telling if he would have scored more if there was a three-point line, but it would have been interesting to see him try to throw up hook shots from downtown.
