Carmelo Anthony Says ‘I Feel Like Myself Again’ As The Season Fast Approaches

Smell that? That’s the fresh scent of NBA training camps. It’s that special time when we’re told that a player is in the best shape of his life, that a team really wants to push the pace this year, that a general manager thinks this is the best squad they’ve ever assembled. It is a time of clichés and meaningless predictions, of tropes and non-speak.

Carmelo Anthony is no exception to this rule. When asked about how he’s feeling now that he’s had ample time to recover from his surgery, Melo rattled off some wonderful Training Camp Speak, according to Ian Begley of ESPN:

“I’m back. I’m there, I’m back. I feel like myself again,” Anthony said on Sunday at his youth basketball camp at Baruch College in Manhattan. “Mentally, physically I feel great. So I’m just ready to go.”

Anthony had surgery on his knee in late February, so one would hope that he’d be feeling great nearly eight months later. His health is obviously paramount to the Knicks’ success, but so is his adaptation to the Triangle offense and his new teammates.

Begley reports that Anthony is excited about the new additions, now it just remains to be seen how well he plays with them. If he really is back to full strength and the Carmelo Anthony of old, and blends with his new teammates as the organization hoped, the Knicks should be much more competitive than they have been in recent history.
