Andrew Wiggins Almost Hit His Head On The Rim During This Towering Alley-Oop Finish

Andrew Wiggins’ preseason play hadn’t been up to snuff. He scored 16 total points on 4-of-15 shooting in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ first two exhibitions, coasting through the action on both ends of the floor like so many detractors assumed he would during the 2014 pre-draft process.

But special players turn it on when the lights are brightest, and that’s what Wiggins did consistently throughout his award-winning rookie campaign. Would a trip home to Toronto help lift the 20-year-old from his early preseason fog? He answered that question affirmatively against the Toronto Raptors on Monday night, pouring in 21 points on 6-of-10 from the field to go along with three rebounds and two assists – in the first half alone.

Wiggins’ skill game is still a work in progress. He showed a much-improved long-range jumper during the FIBA Americas this summer, and briefly flashed the off-dribble playmaking prowess that some think may never come, too. Even so, the reigning Rookie of the Year will still rely on his physical attributes more than anything else to make an impact during his second NBA season.

That would be a big problem for the vast majority of players, obviously, but not Wiggins. Can you think of anyone else in the league who would have to duck below the rim to avoid hitting his head on an alley-oop? We can’t either.

It’s a sight to behold when Wiggins is engaged and aggressive. And fortunately for the Timberwolves, they’ve got every reason to believe he’ll be just that once the regular season finally tips off later this month.
