Derrick Williams Swatted R.J. Hunter’s Layup Attempt Into The Middle Of Next Week

Human Pogo stick Derrick Williams continued his solid preseason play Friday night against the Boston Celtics, who like the Knicks, came into the game undefeated so far in their exhibition match-ups. Williams had a team-high 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting for the night, to go along with five rebounds, a steal, and this monster block that absolutely obliterated R.J. Hunter’s layup attempt. He’s also showing improvement on his jumper as he went 3-of-5 from behind the arc. One of those was a positively clutch three that came with just over two minutes remaining in the game as the shot-clock expired to give the Knicks a five-point lead.

Hunter had a rather modest outing for the Celtics with seven points on just 2-of-6 from the field, but both of those two makes happened to be three-pointers. It was also free-agent signee Arron Afflalo’s preseason debut for New York. He scored eight points in just a little over eight minutes of action on 3-of-6 shooting. Isaiah Thomas was the high scorer for the Celtics with 13 points in 24 minutes and was a perfect 2-of-2 from downtown.

The Knicks went on to win 101-95 and improved to 4-0 on the preseason. They’ll travel to Charlotte Saturday to play the second game of their back-to-back against the Hornets.
