Klay Thompson Wanted To Play The Clippers, But ‘They Didn’t Handle Their Business’

What happened to Doc Rivers? When did he become this petty, shade-throwing instigator who never passes up even the smallest opportunity to stir the sh*t pot? Remember when he was above all that? Not anymore. The latest example came during a recent interview with Zach Lowe of Grantland, during which Doc said bluntly that the Warriors were lucky they didn’t have to face the Clippers or the Spurs in the playoffs last spring.

“You need luck in the West,” he says. “Look at Golden State. They didn’t have to play us or the Spurs. But that’s also a lesson for us: When you have a chance to close, you have to do it.”

Doc is conveniently underplaying the fact that his Clippers pissed away their opportunity to face Golden State in the Western Conference Finals when they imploded in spectacular fashion by blowing a 3-1 series lead against the Houston Rockets in the second round. But Klay Thompson didn’t forget. So when he was asked about Doc’s comments Friday, he had more than enough ammo to “Cool story, Glenn” him all the way to kingdom come. And that’s precisely what he did. And then some.

But that’s not even the best part. Thompson apparently said all this through a mouthful of sunflower seeds.

The Warriors and Clippers were already bitter rivals, and all this extracurricular chatter will only make each of their matchups this season that much more entertaining.
