Rajon Rondo Still Can’t Shoot Free Throws, As This Spectacular Air Ball Shows

The regular season hasn’t even started yet, and folks are already out here trying to get on Shaqtin’ A Fool. Rajon Rondo continued his cratering free-throw accuracy on Saturday against the Portland Trail Blazers, going 1-of-4 from the charity stripe. But none of those misfires were more impressive than this spectacular attempt that whiffed the iron completely.

Rondo is a career 60.9 percent from the line, but he discovered new depths last season when his percentage (39.7) took a plunge to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. He’s a legendarily poor shooter to begin with, and his free throw struggles can be attributed to his twisted shooting form, which has seemed to get worse over the last few seasons as he struggled to return to All-Star form.

It wasn’t the best all-around outing for the Sacramento Kings’ new point guard as he managed just four points and four assists in a little more than 20 minutes of action. His team was still somehow able to edge the Blazers, 94-90, thanks to a solid performance from his presumed backup, Darren Collison, who scored 18 points on 50 percent shooting, to go along with seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

The Kings are now 3-1 on the preseason and will travel to Los Angeles Tuesday to play the Lakers, who are still winless so far.
