Karl-Anthony Towns, Zach LaVine, And The ‘Wolves Read Mean Tweets About Themselves

The whole “celebrities read mean tweets” thing has been going on for a few years. The practice originally started on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and involves celebrities reading mean things about themselves from Twitter while somber music plays in the background. Kimmel’s been doing this since March of 2012, and while it has become a bit overdone over the last three-and-a-half years, it’s still pretty funny.

The latest group to do a mean tweets video was the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was an in-arena skit from the team’s game against Golden State earlier this month, and featured Karl-Anthony Towns, Shabazz Muhammad, Zach LaVine, and Tyus Jones reading insults from the Twittersphere. Towns especially got the short end of the stick, as the team’s star rookie big man had to read three tweets.

Admittedly these aren’t too funny, probably because they had to filter out some of the more explicit things that pop up during Kimmel’s version of mean tweets, but the best tweet came at the very end. It was the final tweet that Towns had to read, and it said: “Karl Anthony Towns looks like if Will Smith fell in nuclear sludge and became a mutant giant.” Also great: LaVine’s ultra-confused reaction when he read “Zach Lavine looks like a normal dude.”

If there is anything unfortunate about this video, it’s that the ‘Wolves couldn’t convince Philadelphia center Joel Embiid to make some jokes at Andrew Wiggins’ expense on his Twitter account.
