Here’s Kevin Durant Getting Interviewed By High School Freshman Karl-Anthony Towns

Before he was the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, showing poise, patience and footwork well beyond his years, Karl-Anthony Towns was… an aspiring reporter? Yes, as it turns out, when Towns was a freshman at St. Joseph High School in New Jersey, he had the opportunity to interview Kevin Durant.

All things considered, he actually does a pretty good job. He’s a little stiff, but he offsets it with a charming charisma and innocence – plus, just look at that smile. His question to Durant is a little long-winded and rushed – as one would expect from a first-time reporter meeting his idol – yet one can rush a question if the answer is still good. In the case of Durant, Towns gets an excellent answer, which is never a guarantee from a professional athlete. It’s also funny to see the young Towns almost at Durant’s height. Nearly any other freshman reporter would be staring up at the 6’9 Durant, but Towns is basically staring him right in the face.

If this whole basketball thing doesn’t work out for Towns (unlikely, given his stellar first few weeks in the NBA), at least he knows he has a future in broadcasting. Who knows? Maybe when his playing days are over, we’ll see him patrolling the sidelines with a microphone in hand.
