It’s been a while since there has been news regarding the status of former NBA star Lamar Odom. At last check, Odom was in a bad place, as a report claimed that he suffered “significant brain damage” and that he was unable to “recognize longtime friends and even family members when they come to visit.”

While Odom is battling for his life, there was a potentially huge issue looming over his head – the sheriff of the Nye County Sheriff’s Department recommended that Odom face charges for felony drug use, as Odom reportedly had cocaine and opiates in his system. On Saturday morning, TMZ broke some potentially good news for Odom, as it said that the former NBA champion is unlikely to face any charges.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, the Nye County D.A. in Nevada is backing off the statements made by the Sheriff, who said there was a strong chance Lamar would be prosecuted for cocaine possession.

TMZ reports that several factors will be a part of the decision to prosecute Odom, namely that he may not be in any kind of physical or mental shape to stand trial. As TMZ put it, “Lamar is so bad off, he might not even be legally competent to stand trial,” so while Odom may get some good news in the coming days, it’s not exactly for a good reason.
