Everybody knows that Allen Iverson was a legend on the court, but AI has become quite the legend in the nightlife as well.
Today comes yet another story of Iverson’s after-hours escapades, this time courtesy of Matt Barnes. The Clippers wing had the pleasure of playing with AI in Philly for 50 games during the 2005-06 season, but more importantly he also had the pleasure of hitting the strip club up with the diminutive star. According to Barnes, Iverson would throw obscene amounts of cash around the club, so much so that he’d stuff some in his own pockets before the strippers could get their hands on it.
Here’s how Barnes told it to Sports Illustrated
One early lesson came from Iverson, his teammate for half a season in Philadelphia. “Allen was the first guy that showed me how NBA players spend money in strip clubs,” Barnes says. “That guy went. HARD. He’d throw so much money, and this was when I was first in the league, that I used to take my foot and scoop the s— under my chair and either re-throw it or put some in my pocket. He’d throw $30,000, $40,000 every time we went. I’m like, ‘You realize what I can do with this money?’”
This was back in 2005 and early 2006, before we had a cool name for throwing all that money at strippers. Little did Iverson know he was not only making it rain for his stripper friends, but for his less fortunate teammates as well.
The rest of the SI piece is worth a read, as Chris Ballard takes a deep look at Barnes, his time playing with Kobe Bryant, and his unique NBA odyssey. Check it out HERE.
