Andray Blatche was always a character of note when he was in the NBA. He didn’t exactly light the world on fire on the court, but he kept things interesting, at least. For the last few seasons, Blatche has been playing over in China, but he’s also been playing for the Philippines’ men’s national basketball team since 2014. The Philippines are gearing up for an Olympic qualifying tournament that they are hosting. They will be competing with Turkey, Canada, Senegal, France, and New Zealand for one Olympic spot. It’s not going to be easy, but as this Instagram that Blatche posted indicates, the team is really ready for the challenge ahead.
In the video, one of the Philippines’ coaches, his name may be Bong, but it’s hard to be sure what’s real and what’s a joke here, is “drawing up a play.” On its face, the plays being drawn up don’t seem to make a ton of sense. From a serious basketball perspective, clearly this coach is failing. On the other hand, the plays drawn up do look suspiciously like crudely drawn pictures of a penis and a vagina.
Blatche and the gang seem to be having a very good time enjoying a light, albeit highly sophomoric, moment during practice. It’s good for them to keep spirits high, considering their chances of qualifying for the Olympics are so low.
