Anthony Davis had himself a game against the Los Angeles Lakers with 39 points and 11 rebounds, even though he was overshadowed by Kobe Bryant’s heroics. But even as he reminded national TV audiences why so many basketball writers (including us) are breathless in their praise of his talents, he couldn’t avoid throwing up one of the more brutal missed dunks you’ll see this year.

There he was: All alone, his impossibly long strides taking him up the court in the blink of an eye, with his octopus arms taking the ball easily as high as it needs to be to get flushed with authority, and then doink. He hid in his jersey out of shame after it happened, as would we all.
