Mt. Vernon High School (NY) is traditionally a national powerhouse on the basketball court, having produced the likes of Ben Gordon, Gus Williams, Rodney McCray, big-time ’08 West Virginia recruit Kevin Jones (Dime #34) and Class of ’09 senior superstar Sherrod Wright (Dime #27) — in the Westchester County town that is home to celebs in other avenues like Denzel Washington, Diddy, Vanessa Williams and Dick Clark.

But there’s a significant risk that legendary coach Bob Cimmino‘s Knights may not be able to field a team this season. School budget concerns have left the athletic program in need of about $300,000 if they hope to have winter sports this year. BG is hosting charity events in the area this weekend to raise money, and Denzel and Diddy have also stepped up to contribute.
