New Orleans Pelicans Wing Bryce Dejean-Jones Has Died

According to Travis Hines of the Ames Tribune, New Orleans Pelicans wing Bryce Dejean-Jones has died at the age of 23.

Former Iowa State men’s basketball player and current New Orleans Pelican Bryce Dejean-Jones has died, the Dallas (Texas) County coroner’s office confirmed to the Ames Tribune on Saturday.

The coroner’s office is currently unable to provide a cause of death.

DeJean-Jones, who played on multiple 10-day contracts for the injury-plagued Pelicans this season, signed a non-guaranteed three-year deal with the team in February. He appeared in 14 games for New Orleans in 2015-16, quickly becoming a fan favorite for his relentless two-way hustle and aggressive brand of individual defense.

The Los Angeles product went undrafted last June after one season at Iowa State. He initially attended USC before transferring to UNLV for two seasons.

Our thoughts are with Dejean-Jones’ family and friends during this difficult time.

*UPDATE: According to ESPN, Bryce Dejean-Jones’ agent confirmed his death by way of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
