The Celtics Are Honoring Paul Pierce By Giving Away Awesome Headbands For His Final Game In Boston

Paul Pierce spent his first 15 seasons in the NBA with the Boston Celtics and holds a spot at or near the top of almost every statistical category in the Celtics record books.

Pierce, who will retire at the end of this season, will be making his final appearance in Boston on Sunday afternoon when the Clippers face the Celtics. In honor of Pierce’s final game in the TD Garden, the Celtics are doing a headband giveaway with his number 34 on it.

It’s rare to see an opposing team do a giveaway for a player, but in Pierce’s case it wouldn’t be right to simply offer up a video tribute to the Celtics legend, especially since Pierce is running his own video tributes on The Players Tribune.

Pierce is the most iconic Celtic since Larry Bird and helped lead the Celtics to their first championship in two decades in 2007-08 along with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. He’s second in franchise history in points scored (24,021) only behind John Havlicek. He’s third in games played (1,102), third in field goals made (7,882), first in three-pointers made (1,823), first in free throws made (6,434), first in steals (1,583), fifth in assists (4,305), seventh in rebounds (6,651) and fourth in blocks (668).

Put simply, Pierce is one of the five to 10 greatest Celtics of all-time, and it’s a great gesture from the organization to honor his signature headband look with a giveaway.

His No. 34 will hang in the rafters in TD Garden soon enough. But these headbands will be something Celtics fans lucky enough to be in the building to get will treasure for a long time.
