Channing Frye Was Really Impressed With The Pre-Game Burritos The Cavs Provided Last Season

Channing Frye had some spectacular moments for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the playoffs, most notably his 27-point explosion in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Atlanta Hawks on 7-of-9 shooting from behind the arc.

After all he’s been through, including vision problems that nearly blinded his daughter and an enlarged heart that threatened to end his career prematurely, Frye’s NBA journey came full-circle as a member of the Cavs’ phenomenal championship run this spring.

In addition to having the opportunity to play with LeBron James and reunite with Arizona teammate Richard Jefferson, Frye had nothing but rave reviews about the Cavs organization in his first-person essay over at The Players’ Tribune on Tuesday. But there was one particular amenity that really tickled his fancy:

We have to talk about the burritos.

The burritos that the Cavs provide are next level.

Every other place I’ve been, the preshootaround spread had been nonexistent. In Cleveland, they give us burritos, coffee, yogurt, parfait and some wonderful French toast. When I first saw the spread, I was like, “Free burritos before shootaround? Are you shitting me? This is the best!”

They’re not standard, O.K.? I’m talking a whole wheat tortilla, egg white, maybe a little goat cheese, maybe some cheddar. Sometimes they have pork sausage, sometimes chicken sausage. They switch it up to keep it fresh.

There are few better phrases in the English language than “free burritos,” so we feel you, Channing. There are also several other interesting tidbits about his life and career, such as all the work and mental strength it took to come back from his potentially life-threatening health scare, as well as how Suns coach Alvin Gentry helped him transform his game through long-range shooting, so be sure to give it a read.
