Clippers Benchwarmer, All-Around Good Guy Ekpe Udoh Cleans Up Teammate’s Spit

The lives of benchwarmers aren’t as glamorous as they appear.

A job you think amounts to shooting casual jumpers in practice and getting in half-paced pre-game workouts is far more labor intensive than that. Deep reserves are tasked with playing the scout team, staying ready in case of an emergency appearance, and being a ceaselessly optimistic enthusiastic sideline participant.

And Ekpe Udoh’s responsibilities, apparently, extend even further than that.

After teammate Matt Barnes spat on the floor during the Los Angeles Clippers’ 114-105 win over the San Antonio Spurs yesterday, the seldom-used big man did what any janitor, custodian, or simply awesome human being would do – he cleaned it up.

Hey Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and company: Maybe you should finally give Udoh some dap? He definitely, definitely deserves it after sparing cameramen and baseline-sitting fans a step in Barnes’ bile.
