Intentionally Running Out The Clock When Your Team Is Losing Is A Bad Strategy

Every athlete commits mistakes at one time or another, but this one is especially bad.

The situation: Brown and Bryant are in the closing seconds of a super tight game. A Bryant player hit a three to put his team ahead by one, but Brown just came back down the court and took the lead back with a layup. Normally, the standard operating procedure here is pretty easy, as Bryant would try to go down the court and score a game-winning basket.

Unfortunately, there was a problem. The Bryant player who got the ball in his hands after the inbound thought his team was ahead. So instead of aggressively trying to push the ball up the court, he kind of just dibbled around looking like he was expecting someone to foul him. To completely waste the clock, he threw the ball in the air right as time was expiring. It was such a terrible mental error that he didn’t even know what was going on.

That’s right. Our dude was so convinced that he made the smart play and managed to avoid getting fouled that he tried to get a high five from a teammate.

Really, all you can do after something like this is get back on the court next time and try your best to make sure this never happens again. A virtual hug from all of us, Bryant basketball player.
