Last offseason, the big story in the NBA was the saga of DeAndre Jordan. It was a well-covered story, given how unusual it was, but here’s a quick recap in case you need your memory jogged: Jordan had agreed to leave the Los Angeles Clippers to sign with the Dallas Mavericks. Then, he got cold feet, and wanted to re-sign with the Clippers. He holed himself up with some of the Clippers brass and his teammates while the Mavericks tried to get a hold of Jordan to try and keep him from changing his mind. Emojis were involved. Eventually, Jordan did end up going back to the Clippers, making Dallas scramble to recover. This offseason, the Mavs were determined not to let their big signing, Harrison Barnes, get away.

Barnes signed his deal with the Mavericks Wednesday night, and Mark Cuban posted a picture on Twitter to commemorate the occasion. Rick Carlisle is happily holding the contract in his hands, and next to him stands Harrison Barnes … who is handcuffed to Mavs GM Donnie Nelson.

Obviously, they are having a bit of fun about the whole Jordan fiasco. It’s all smiles with Barnes and company. Of course, there was no chance of Barnes going anywhere else. He was a restricted free agent, and you may have heard that his old team, the Golden State Warriors, took on some salary this offseason. At least Dallas can laugh about last offseason now.
