The Portland Trail Blazers are in Brooklyn taking on the Nets for some daytime Sunday action, but Damian Lillard doesn’t need it to be primetime to put on a show. He’s been one of the best shotmakers in the NBA for years now, and he outdid himself with this twisting, falling layup through the lane to get a three-point play. The Blazers’ tweet for the play says it all.
At 7-7, the Blazers are failing to meet the lofty expectations they set for themselves by making the second round of the playoffs last season. The Western Conference is shaping up to be a little tougher than last season, with the Rockets and Grizzlies playing healthier and better and the Lakers looking actually possibly good. Still, the NBA is driven by its star power, and with Lillard and C.J. McCollum, the Blazers have the artillery to stay in the battle for a playoff spot all year.
