De’Aaron Fox Thinks He ‘Could Possibly End Up In L.A.’ After A Fortuitous Meeting With Magic Johnson

When the UCLA Bruins lost to the Kentucky Wildcats in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, the great majority of buzz revolved around the Ball family. After all, talented freshman guard Lonzo Ball struggled mightily (10 points, 4 of 10 shooting) in what would come to be his final college basketball game, and after that, the Twitter trolls were out in full force toward his father, LaVar Ball.

However, there was another big-time story-line in place, as Kentucky’s freshman point guard De’Aaron Fox was absolutely unbelievable in scoring 39 (!) points to lead his team to victory. With that in mind, the probable top-10 NBA Draft pick was prompted at the combine about the performance and whether he noticed that Los Angeles Lakers executive Magic Johnson was in attendance. He responded without even a hint of shyness.

Fox certainly “put on a show,” as he describes it, and his performance managed to outshine the (much) more famous Ball on the floor. Beyond that, though, the notion that Fox truly believes he “could possibly end up in L.A.” is the big-time headliner here. At this point, the entire NBA world is awaiting a massive draft lottery that will impact the Lakers greatly, and there has been a ton of discussion as to whether Los Angeles could land Ball in late June.

With Fox, though, the Lakers could truly be getting the “safer” pick based on his projectable nature on the defensive end, and Kentucky’s lead guard was definitely the better player on one night in March. Most draft pundits would place Lonzo Ball comfortably ahead of De’Aaron Fox, but there is a possibility that Ball could be gone before the Lakers select, and even if he isn’t, Magic Johnson watched a basketball game that could easily lead him to believe Fox is the better prospect. Only time will tell on this one, but the possibilities are intriguing.
