DeAndre Jordan Says Playing In Dallas Next Season ‘Will Be Like Any Other Road Game’

The DeAndre Jordan free agency fiasco may have officially ended earlier this summer when he stunned the world – and inadvertently set off the greatest emoji battle in history – by reneging on his agreement to join the Mavs and instead re-signing with his incumbent Clippers. But make no mistake: there’s still plenty of residual animosity and lingering resentment to go around. Doc Rivers and Mark Cuban, for instance, have seized every opportunity to trade verbal jabs in the media.

And whether Jordan wants to face it or not, a considerable amount of pomp and circumstance will inevitably accompany him when he and the Clippers travel to Dallas to play the Mavs on November 11. It will emphatically not be just like any other road game, as he tried to suggest to L.A. Times beat writer Ben Bolch Friday.

It’s understandable that Jordan would want to downplay it. He’d assuredly just like to put the whole sordid ordeal behind him. But such are the repercussions of his shocking reversal. The collective ire of the entire Mavericks fan-base is a small price to pay for peace of mind. The jeers will be loud and plentiful, but just like every other player who’s scorned a city, they’ll eventually subside.
