For all of his talent, and he’s got a lot of it, DeMarcus Cousins is still prone to hurt himself and his team with his emotional outbursts. Last night, with his Sacramento Kings leading the Golden State Warriors by two in the third quarter, Cousins picked up his fifth foul and let his temper get the best of him once again. After his complaints led to the first technical foul, things got out of hand.

Cousins stormed at referee Mitchell Ervin, which deservedly drew a second technical foul and an automatic ejection. It was a particularly frustrating moment for the Kings and their fans because of how hard it is just to stay competitive against the Warriors, especially playing in Oakland. The Kings soon fell out of the game, as the Warriors went on a massive run immediately after Cousins was sent off. Golden State went on to win, 122-103. Cousins, for his part, will likely be suspended for his outburst, according to Kings GM Vlade Divac.

Both he and coach George Karl agreed with Cousins that the fouls called on him were on the soft side (after all, they were playing in Oracle Arena), but no one can make that sort of menacing gesture at an official and get away with it. He knew what was going to happen the second he took those steps, and now he’s looking at probable discipline from the league office.
