Dennis Rodman continues to be the quintessential tragicomic figure of post-playing career athletes, as his life seems like an endless string of questionable decisions and statements. Well, his latest appearance in the headlines is not funny in the least, as TMZ Sports reported that Rodman crashed his car on Interstate 5 in Los Angeles back in July after driving north in a southbound carpool lane.

Rodman allegedly swerved to avoid a head-on collision, then crashed into a divider at roughly 12:30 a.m. on July 20. He apparently left the scene, and California Highway Patrol is recommending that he be charged with hit-and-run. Rodman was reportedly spotted at a karaoke bar earlier in the night, calling into question whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

It would be a mistake to equate an incident as serious as driving in the wrong direction on a highway while possibly under the influence of alcohol with other instances of him simply being a weird dude, but it’s no secret that Dennis has a history of disturbing behavior. If he’s experiencing a bout of whatever’s been troubling him in his post-NBA life, here’s hoping he can get the help he needs. Either way, it might be too late to keep him out of a jail cell.
