The Hawks, Rockets, And Pistons Are All Expected To Pursue Draymond Green

Draymond Green is about to be a very rich man. As in, he’ll widely exceed his entire career earnings next season alone. Whether he makes that wealth in the Bay Area or in another city is an entirely different matter. Green will be one of the most sought after free agents this summer, regardless of his restricted status, and as Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports reports, teams are already lining up to talk to woo the 2015 NBA Champion.

Despite the expected interest from Golden State and Detroit, Green told Yahoo Sports he would do his due diligence with all suitors when free agency arrives Wednesday. The Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets are also expected to be among the teams interested in Green, a source said.

The Pistons being among the teams that will pursue Green is hardly surprising or novel. Green hails from Saginaw, Michigan, and the Pistons have been a name frequently associated with Green’s free agency ever since the start of his breakout season. The Rockets and Hawks, however, are new names to the game. Green would be an excellent fit with any of these teams, especially if the Hawks were to lose Paul Millsap in free agency. A Green-Horford frontcourt would wreak havoc on both ends of the floor and make the Hawks even more dangerous than they were this year.

The likelihood of Green going anywhere is extremely low, and not just because Warriors’ general manager Bob Myers said he’d match whatever offer Green receives. Playing at home probably as a certain appeal – bigger for some than others, obviously – but when one considers the state of the Pistons versus the state of the Warriors, the verdure of Draymond’s surname is only matched by the Warriors.
