Watch An Annoyed Gregg Popovich Completely Troll A Poor Reporter At Media Day

The scaffolding of Gregg Popovich‘s meta awareness of his reputation with the media has reached dizzying heights over the years. It’s hard to take it seriously anymore, given that even Popovich himself can barely conceal the knowing smirk that always accompanies these excruciating exchanges.

Despite what Popovich might have us all believe, it’s become painfully clear that it’s never really been about the quality of the questions he’s asked. It’s always been about his whim and whether he feels like being amiable that particular day, or whether he wants to watch us all squirm like the worms that we are as we dangle helplessly from his proverbial hook.

That’s little consolation for someone like NBA.com’s Jared Greenberg, who obviously drew the short straw when they were doling out media day assignments. At the opening of the San Antonio Spurs’ training camp on Monday, Greenberg started off breezily enough with a comment about Pop’s offseason facial hair, which didn’t exactly get things started on the right foot. It pretty much dovetails from there, but be sure to watch all the way to the end of the video — as uncomfortable a prospect as that might sound — for the eventual M. Night Shyamalan-like twist that brings the whole ordeal full circle.
