Hassan Whiteside is wearing a heavy bandage on his right hand for his team’s game against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night following a laceration he suffered last week. Fortunately for the Miami Heat, it apparently doesn’t keep the young paint-protector from swatting shots out of bounds.
Poor Boris Diaw. He thought he had a clear path to the rim after beating Michael Beasley backdoor and catching a perfect feed from Tiago Splitter. But Whiteside’s 7’7 wingspan and quick-twitch explosiveness rendered that optimism wildly premature.
Despite playing with 10 stitches in his right hand, the 25 year-old is helping the undermanned Heat stay close with the defending champs. Whiteside has six points (3-3 FGs), four rebounds, and two blocks in 10 minutes off the bench as Miami trails San Antonio by a narrow margin late in the second quarter.
