Hedo Turkoglu‘s agent Lon Babby told the Orlando Sentinel that his guy is planning on opting out of the final year of his contract because interest for the 6-10 forward will be “robust.” That, of course, is code for “Hedo is going to get PAID.”
And why wouldn’t he? He’s built a rep as a big shot taker/maker who can score from all over the floor and for a guy who supposedly plays no D, it looked like he was frustrating Kobe whenever he was matched up on him. His height and length seemed to give Bryant more trouble than did Mickael Pietrus or Courtney Lee, but one would assume that Hedo wasn’t chasing Bryant more because he was so important to the Magic’s offense on the other end of the floor.
I think Turkoglu is great – I was calling for the Sixers to deal Andre Miller for him after Jameer Nelson got hurt before the rest of the League figured out how good he is. Hedo would clearly be a great addition to a good team in need of a second or third scorer. He’s due to make $7.3 million next season, but will likely get a lot more on the free agent market. With Dwight, Rashard Lewis and Nelson tied up in large, long-term deals, it will be tough for the Magic to keep him.
