Isaiah Thomas Is Happy For Kyrie But Doesn’t Want Celtics Fans To Forget His Contributions

When Gordon Hayward went down with a catastrophic ankle injury on opening night, the Celtics seemed doomed. But after starting the season 0-2, Boston went on a stunning 16-game win streak and quickly established themselves as the No. 1 threat in the Eastern Conference.

In the process, Kyrie Irving has been phenomenal throughout his mission to prove to all the doubters that he’s more than capable of leading a team to the promised land. He’s also been one of the clutchest players in the NBA so far this season.

So much so that it prompted ESPN.com to write this headline:

Isaiah Thomas, of course, earned the nickname “Mr. Fourth Quarter” or “King of the Fourth” for his late-game heroics last season for the Celtics, and his production in clutch situations – which that statisticians define as the last five minutes of a game with the score within five points – was strikingly similar to what Irving is doing so far this season.

So when the above Twitter fan asked Thomas whether it would give him added motivation, IT demurred…partially.

Thomas has yet to suit up for the Cavs this season, and although there is still no time-table for his return, the two-time All-Star has made progress toward that goal by participating in practice sessions with his teammates. The Cavs pushed their win-streak to seven on Friday night with a nail-biting win over the Hornets, 100-99.
