The New York Knicks are looking to start anew, trading for Derrick Rose last week in the hopes that he’ll have a renaissance in Manhattan. Their next target is a much bigger one.

Kevin Durant has told the Knicks that he’ll meet with them during his free agency this summer, and team president Phil Jackson will try to lure 2016’s biggest prize with his wily, mystical wisdom.

This probably won’t work, because Durant is obviously serious about playing for a championship next year, which is not something the Knicks are prepared to do. But it’s worth a shot.

Elsewhere, Rose has made his desire to keep playing with Joakim Noah quite clear, stating as much in his introductory press conference with the Knicks. Noah is a New York native and has seen his relationship with the Chicago Bulls deteriorate over the past two seasons in the lead-up to his impending free agency. He and Rose are both seeking redemption next year after injuries and organizational failure stole what they felt was a title window in Chicago, and Rose thinks they should seek that redemption together.

Noah or not, Durant or not, the Knicks are going to be active this summer, and likely look much different than they did last season.
