Kevin Durant has a reputation for being one of the great guys in the NBA. While he’s considered cold and ruthless on the court, he’s know for his dedication to philanthropic causes off of it.

Durant flexed his good guy muscles after Oklahoma City’s game against Los Angeles on Friday night. Earlier this week, a post about a 17-year-old Thunder fan named Brooke Wolcott went viral. Wolcott has cystic fibrosis, and the post asked for Durant to design a special shoe that raised awareness for the disorder.

The bad news is that the Make-A-Wish Foundation denied this request, according to a separate Facebook post done by Wolcott’s mother. The post also outlined why it was so important to her to get a shoe designed by Durant.

She decided that she wanted her main wish to be something that would help others and bring awareness to cystic fibrosis. She chose Kevin Durant because 1. He is her FAVORITE basketball player and OKC is her favorite team. 2. She loves his shoes and 3. Because she thought it was awesome how much attention his Aunt Pearl shoes gained for cancer awareness.

The Aunt Pearl shoes were a pair of sneakers Durant helped design in memory of his late aunt, who passed away in 2001 after battling lung cancer.

Eventually, the word of Wolcott’s battle got to KD, and he promised to autograph his game-worn sneakers and send them to her.

In response, Wolcott took to her Instagram account to thank the former MVP.

There are a lot of the things that happen every day that make you lose a little faith in humanity. Every time something like this happens, that faith is restored. Good on Kevin Durant for doing this for a fan and for raising awareness for a terrible disorder.
