Kevin Durant Tells The Media ‘I Actually Do Love You Guys’

Kevin Durant‘s relationship with the media has grown increasingly tense and stand-offish over the years, whether he’s bemoaning their treatment of his idol Kobe Bryant or overlooking the Thunder as a viable threat to the Western Conference Crown. It’s debatable how much of this exists primarily in Durant’s mind, and perhaps sensing that this dynamic has reached its nadir, the four-time scoring champ decided to clear the air Sunday prior to OKC’s home game against the Miami Heat. Via Royce Young of ESPN.com:

“I also got something else to say, if you guys don’t mind,” Durant said, unprompted by any question. “I’ve seen over the last couple of days, or couple of years, actually, that I hate the media. I actually do love you guys. If I hated someone, I wouldn’t talk to them, I wouldn’t interact with them, I wouldn’t laugh and joke with them, I wouldn’t talk about anything other than what you guys ask me.”

So there you have it. It’s nice to know that we’re no longer barreling toward Marshawn-Lynchian levels of theatrical absurdity. But despite Durant’s abrupt 180, there’s still no word on teammate Russell Westbrook’s true feelings on the subject, which is probably better left alone at this point.
