Kirk Cousins Told His Redskins Teammates ‘I’d Like Us To Be The Spurs Of The NFL’

Washington
’s football team has often been a team surrounded by turmoil and controversy in recent years. On top of all the issues involving their team name, the team has featured lightning rods such as owner Dan Snyder and quarterback Robert Griffin III. However, if starting quarterback Kirk Cousins has his way, Washington isn’t going to be making a lot of headlines. Instead, they are going to be the San Antonio Spurs of the NFL.

Cousins explained his dream scenario for his team by saying, “I’ve told my teammates that I’d like to be the San Antonio Spurs of the NFL, be super boring and maybe people at the end of the season just go: ‘Wow. They had a really good year and no one talked about it.’ ” Of course, Cousins’ desire probably leans more to the “successful” aspects of the Spurs, as opposed to the “boring” part. Additionally, pretty much every NFL team desires not to make any waves. That hasn’t always been the case with Washington, though. Now, without a quarterback controversy, perhaps things will be calmer. That doesn’t mean success necessarily, though.

Washington has a long way to go before they can be considered the Spurs of the NFL. Maybe they will be uncontroversial, but they need to at least make it to a Super Bowl before they can claim to be following in San Antonio’s footsteps.
