Jason Day’s Wife Left The Arena On A Stretcher After This Nasty Collision With LeBron James

Late in the fourth quarter of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 104-100 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night, LeBron James dove for a loose ball near midcourt and collided with a female spectator.

The fan, Ellie Harvey – who happens to be married to professional golfer Jason Day – stayed down for several minutes as paramedics readied a stretcher. At the ensuing dead ball immediately following the incident, James checked on the woman before returning to the Cavaliers’ huddle. Play was briefly suspended while medical personnel prepared her to exit the arena.

TNT’s Craig Sager reported that Harvey was verbally responsive after taking the fall. For his part, LeBron issued this Twitter apology after the game:

Here’s more from ESPN’s Brian Winhorst, including Day’s wife squeezing LeBron’s hand to let him know she was OK.

Day was said to be OK but was taken to a hospital for treatment. She was released early Friday morning, a spokeswoman said.

Day was down for several minutes while she received medical attention, which included having a brace placed around her neck and head.

James said that when he checked on her she had squeezed his hand. He was told she was “doing great.”

The freakiness of the incident should waylay any concerns for future fans in the “Jack Nicholson seats,” but when you’re 6-foot-8 and 250 pounds, you can cause some serious damage to anyone in your general vicinity as you’re going after a loose ball.

“It wasn’t anything out of the usual besides the injury,” James said. “But to me, obviously her health is very important, and hopefully she’s doing well. The guys told us she’s doing great now. So, but you know, I was going for a loose ball. Just trying to keep the possession going, and I hate that that was the end result of it.”

Thankfully, Day’s wife looks to make a full recovery.
